Ethel Laurie  Kempel (Albright)
Ethel Laurie Kempel passed away on December 13, 2017 at the age of 101 in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Born in Manhattan (New York) February 17, 1916, Ethel resided in the states of New York, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois and New Jersey before moving to Akron, OH her freshman year in high school. A graduate of Buchtel High, she attended the University of Akron, a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She worked in the Akron Public Library.
Ethel was married to Norman Kempel in Atlanta, GA in 1941. Norman died in 2015 after 74 years of marriage.
Ethel was a founding member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and sang in the choir. She served on the St. Thomas Women’s Board and the Guild for 35 years.
She was a homemaker who dedicated her life to three daughters who survive her: Karen Newshutz Stilwill (Dave) of Cleveland, OH; Christine Rees (Peter) of Uppingham, England and Kathy Burkle of Norfolk, MA. She also has seven grandchildren: Laurie Newshutz of Cleveland, OH; David Newshutz of Kent, OH; Michael Haines of Melbourne, Australia; Katie Burkle of Washington, DC; Christopher Haines of Oakham, England; Sarah Kranz of Medway, MA; Elizabeth Adams of Oakham, England; and many great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Helen Albright and her sister Roberta (Bobbe) Kenny.
Mass of Christian Burial is Tuesday, December 19, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH) at 12:30pm. Friends may call from 11:30am until mass time. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
